We endorse Anees Hasnain for Community Service Commissioner.

Hasnain has a clear agenda in mind. She aims to improve the effectiveness of service projects by drafting a progress manual and will encourage recruitment through a guidebook to community service projects on campus.

Hasnain has a background in community service, having worked this year as a director for Project WILD, one of 23 projects that CSC oversees.

She demonstrated a realistic approach to funding, with a focus on cutting costs and improving efficiency. For example, she suggested that Alternative Spring Break, which expanded to out-of-state community service projects this year, should be limited to in-state projects unless the commission enjoys a sizable surplus.

Hasnain has not worked in USAC before, but we see this as advantageous. She said she would apply a frugal attitude to budgetary issues by voting to fulfill the council’s funding needs, not wants.

Hasnain exhibited practicality and feasibility in her platforms, making us confident she will continue the positive work of the commission.
