The scene is familiar every year: Bruin Bash, the activities fair, movie screenings. But for first-year Jonathan Yasmeh everything was new. Hear his story as he experiences the various events throughout UCLA’s Welcome Week 2011.

Located in the heart of Downtown Los Angeles, The Smell is an all-ages venue and artists space dedicated to creativity and the D.I.Y.-ethic. While it’s a place where graffiti, torn couches, and experimental noise rock can all be found, perhaps its most unique and defining characteristic is The Smell’s strong backing community.

This past summer, candy and soda shop Rocket Fizz opened its doors in Westwood. But while the store’s customers enjoy the wide selection of sweets and the shop’s nostalgic vibe, it remains to be seen if Rocket Fizz can stay a lasting fixture in Westwood.

This year’s Bruins have their minds set on winning the Pac 12 championship, and according to players Johnathan Franklin and Joseph Fauria, it just might be possible.

Julie Orser started her art career in photography before gradually developing an interest in “video art.” Orser speaks about her interest in video and her short _Bottleneck_, which she will exhibit at UCLA’s 2011 “In Practice” art show.

In 2011, Fourth-year English student Shadelene Adamos participated in the annual FAST fashion show as a designer for her first time. Hear her tell her story here.

Following the separation of conjoined twins Maria Teresa and Maria Jesus, the sisters found their family growing in unexpected ways. Not only were they adopted by two separate families to accommodate their needs, but they found that their medical team would become familiar fixtures as well.
