Softball unable to mount comeback against Hofstra, falls 7-2 in NCAA Los Angeles Regional

On a night in which UCLA softball grew frustrated with the home plate umpire and struggled to find their footing early against the nation’s leading pitcher in earned run average, the Bruins’ late rally against Hofstra seemed too good to be true for the hosts of the NCAA Los Angeles Regional.

Protesters interrupt UC Board of Regents meeting

Protesters holding signs and dressed in orange jumpsuits briefly interrupted the UC Board of Regents meeting in Sacramento Wednesday morning.

About 20 UC students, employees, teaching assistants and tutors broke into a chant and circled the audience, forcing the regents to take a recess and enter closed session.

Among them were several UCLA students, including Alex Yu a fifth-year history student and world arts and culture graduate student Matt Sandoval.

Students chanted, “That’s the sound of the students-working on the chain gang” and held up signs with messages such as “Long live the Guillotine.”

The regents had been discussing the draft of the Robinson-Edley report on UC protest policies before the chanting broke out.

Album Review: 'Movies' by the Stripminers

Doing a Wikipedia search for the Stripminers brings up no results related to the slick rock group led by Brett Anderson (of the Donnas) and Paul Stinson (of the Radishes). That is really a shame too, because more people should get to know about the band’s terrific sound.

The band’s full-length debut album “Movies” features plenty of slow rock jams as well as a good mix of more punk-driven tracks and even some alt-country-influenced songs.
