State budget provision to face Legislature, decision will determine UC, CSU tuition

Possible tuition increases for the University of California and California State University in the upcoming year could be halted if a provision in the 2012-2013 state budget passes in the Legislature this week.

The provision, sponsored by Speaker of the Assembly John Perez (D-Los Angeles), is contingent on voter approval of the Gov.

University police searching for thief of backpack stolen outside Feast at Rieber

University police are looking for a man who stole a backpack outside of Feast at Rieber dining hall earlier this month.

On June 5 at 5:40 p.m., the man watched the backpack’s owner use a security code to lock his belonging in a locker, according to a police report released today.

Reels of tape intertwine costumed dancers who hold items such as rifles, arrows or bottles of Coca-Cola. The dancers use these objects to maintain tension on the tapes as an electronic composition created by the reel-to-reel tape machines and orchestral instruments fills the air.

Artist Scott Benzel will present and perform this piece, titled “(Threnody) A Beginner’s Guide to Mao Tse-tung ““ for 2 tape loops, dancers, cello, viola, violin and percussion,” at Thursday’s Hammer Bash! event.

Updated: LAFD investigating reported arson at Westwood Hills Christian Church

As Sunday service commenced in Westwood Hills Christian Church earlier this week, two pews remained empty. The roped-off benches were black and charred as a result of a reported arson that torched parts of the sanctuary on June 15. 

At about 9 p.m. on the night of the fire, two members of the congregation, who are also on staff at UCLA, noticed that the church’s door was ajar and saw smoke coming from inside, said senior minister Perry Fuller.Â
