Fowler concert featuring Banda Viento de Oro explores banda music’s cross-cultural influence

On Aug. 19 the ordinarily serene setting of the Fowler Museum’s outdoor courtyard transformed into a wonderland of Spanglish and lively music as it hosted a free concert featuring Banda Viento de Oro and special guests Wil-Dog and Yarel Ramos.

The Fowler and Josh Kun, director of the Popular Music Project at USC, teamed up to help promote the banda culture.

Addressing a crowd of more than 3,000 people ““ including university students ““ President Barack Obama was on the campaign trail at Capital University in the battleground state of Ohio today to advocate his higher education plans and highlight contrasts between him and likely Republican nominee Mitt Romney.

During his speech, Obama criticized Romney for his proposed policies of decreased education spending and changes to student loan programs.
