UCLA defeats Indiana State 86-59 at season opener

Some bad news about a freshman cast a dark cloud over the grand re-opening of Pauley Pavilion. Another freshman made sure the mood inside didn’t sour.

Jordan Adams had the most impressive debut out of the Bruins’ heralded freshman class in a 86-59 win over Indiana State, putting up 21 points on 7-of-11 shooting with seven rebounds.

The Bruins (1-0) looked sluggish in the first half, connecting on only 11 of 26 shots, but Adams was consistent throughout.

UCLA leads Indiana State 36-27 at halftime

Playing in Pauley for the first time since its renovation, the UCLA men’s basketball team looked shaky under the spotlight in the first half of Friday’s game.

The Bruins were underwhelming in the first 20 minutes of the much anticipated season opener, committing nine turnovers and shooting 42.3% from the field.

Despite the many mistakes, UCLA leads Indiana State 36-27 at the half in front of a sold-out crowd.

Shabazz Muhammad ruled ineligible after NCAA finds violation

Freshman guard Shabazz Muhammad is ineligible to play for the UCLA men’s basketball team after the NCAA found Muhammad and his family violated amateurism rules.

UCLA announced the decision in a statement from athletic director Dan Guerrero as fans began filing in for the first game in new Pauley Pavilion, 90 minutes before tip-off of the season opener against Indiana State.

It is unclear when or if Muhammad will be ruled eligible.
