UCLA is expected to receive a $200 million donation that will create a fund to support university operations and spur further philanthropy.

The donation, announced Monday by the Lincy Foundation, matches the largest in UCLA’s history.

Lady Gaga’s arrival to the 53rd Annual Grammy Awards in a giant plastic egg, carried by men in skin-tight gold boxers, means that the show has already begun. There was a time, I think, when theme songs were almost as important as the shows they introduced. They were fully formed tunes, many of them catchy and original and comforting. “Friends” had one of the best, a sweet song with a chorus that begins, “I’ll be there for you.”

As I wrote in my “Pop Psychology” column this week, two of our old “Friends” have come back into our lives recently – Matt LeBlanc in Showtime’s “Episodes” and Matthew Perry in ABC’s “Mr. Sunshine.” Neither of them brought particularly good theme songs with them, though.

Valentine’s Day has become an event that has grown to be very stressful. In an attempt to save those who have not planned an extravagant night out for their significant other, AMC Theatres is rereleasing the ’80s teen classic “Sixteen Candles” Sunday and Monday at 7 p.m.

Playing at the AMC Century City 15, located in the Westfield Century City Mall, this movie will be a step above the normal dinner-and-a-movie date night. The film follows Molly Ringwald, who plays Samantha Baker, on her 16th birthday, as she tries to get the attention of the popular school senior and make her birthday a memorable one.

Thursday nights are meant for friendship. Being fortunate enough to not be plagued with Friday classes, I have reserved the fourth night of my school week for spending quality time and engaging in much needed rapport with my girlfriends. However, this Thursday night I needed change. I needed a fresh perspective and take on life that my female companions couldn’t give me. I needed to be in the presence of someone who was fashionably bold, brutally honest and unashamed of human sexuality. In other words, I needed the company of a sassy gay friend.

Northwest Campus Auditorium was packed with more than 300 fans eager to see the viral antics of Brian Gallivan, also known as Sassy Gay Friend, play out live before them instead of on their usual computer screens.

It wasn’t pretty, but the UCLA men’s basketball team managed to defeated Oregon State, 69-61, Saturday afternoon at Pauley Pavilion.

The win marked the 13th straight for UCLA over Oregon State, the longest Pac-10 win streak over a single conference opponent.

Junior guard Malcolm Lee had a game-high 19 points for the Bruins, his sixth straight game in double-digit scoring. Sophomore forward Tyler Honeycutt also made his mark with a gaudy statline: nine points, five rebounds, five assists and eight blocks ““ the most blocks by a UCLA player since Jelani McCoy’s 11 in 1995.

UCLA won despite a late surge from Oregon State. Coach Ben Howland comically had to take out his lineup of four non-scholarship players with under a minute to play after a 6-0 Beaver run, but UCLA still managed to hold on for the eight-point win.
