Bus Stops: Bruins for Transit co-president Matthew Kroneberger talks about downtown Los Angeles

I covered a lot of ground this week in my column, but I think I was most impressed with the architecture of downtown Los Angeles. At one point, we made our way down to the building that hosts the Grand Central Market. From the roof you can see a lot of Los Angeles: the Los Angeles Public Library, the Los Angeles Times office, the Federal Building and several gleaming high-rises.

Yuck's debut album carries '90s indie vibe with a twist

Yuck’s self-titled debut plays like the record collection of a mid-’90s indie rock aficionado. The London-based quintet lies somewhere in between the noise rock of Sonic Youth, the gritty haze of Dinosaur Jr., the blatant lo-fi recording of Pavement and, at times, the unrelenting distortion of My Bloody Valentine.

Kerckhoff Coffeehouse plays host to Valentine's Night, complete with Jazz vocalist Teira Church and soul and R&B artist Mateo, tonight

Treat your sweetheart to a free Sprinkles cupcake by being one of the first 50 people to arrive at Kerckhoff Coffeehouse for Valentine’s Night hosted by the Cultural Affairs Commisson.

The event, which will take place from 7 to 9 p.m. today in the coffeehouse, will feature musical performances fit for all of the lovebirds out there.

From 7 to 8 p.m. UCLA Jazz vocalist Teira Church will open the show with a live performance of romantic tunes. The night’s main event, L.A.‘s soul and R&B artist Mateo, will take the stage from 8 to 9 p.m.
