Raise your glass to the Downtown Independent's drink-along events and vibrant atmosphere

We’ve all heard of the numerous independent theaters in Los Angeles, each possessing a certain quirk, decor or avant-garde culture that elevates it above the regular multiplex theaters in most of our hometowns. The Downtown Independent theater, however, which is located at the heart of downtown Los Angeles, hosts a monthly event that surpasses any moviegoing experience I have had to date: the “Double Feature Drink-Along.”

Roosevelt Radio to participate in Whisky A Go Go competition

In the 1960s, West Coast rock had a home at the Whisky A Go Go on Sunset Boulevard, where, for a period, The Doors were the house act. UCLA alumna Sarah Morgan and her band Roosevelt Radio are one of the newest additions to West Coast rock and they are getting their turn to play at the Whisky Thursday night.

Morgan plays the keyboard and provides backup vocals for Bay Area-based Roosevelt Radio along with lead vocalist Ben Ross, Adrian Mccullough on bass, Philip Coffin on drums and Joel Line on guitar. They will appear as one of seven finalists in the Whisky’s “Gimme the Gig” competition at 8 p.m. on Thursday. Each band will perform live and the show will be streamed live at gimmethegig.com.

Hoping 'The Last Song' is the last Miley Cyrus film I watch

Every week, A&E contributor Corinne Cunard blogs about an awful movie she just can’t help but watch. Here is the movie she found herself loving to hate this week.

In the spirit of Valentine’s Day, I found myself watching a Nicholas Sparks movie. Unfortunately I didn’t end up watching one of his romantic greats, such as “The Notebook” or even “A Walk to Remember.” Instead, I found myself watching “The Last Song.”

I don’t know why I was drawn to this particular movie, but of course once I started watching I just couldn’t stop. I am not sure what should scare me more ““ Miley Cyrus’ acting or the fact that Nicholas Sparks wrote this screenplay specifically for her. Maybe the picture for the movie drew me in. After all, the poster makes it look like a cheesy romance worthy of my time.

Bieber fever embodied in products

With the flick of the bangs and a wink of the eye, Justin Bieber has already gotten you to fall in love with him.

OK, that may not be the case for everyone, but for the large population of Bieber fans out there, this whole schtick has moved millions of units of Justin Bieber merchandise from the stores into the bedrooms of the average 9-year-old girl, or maybe the average 19-year-old girl. For every critic of the Bieber machine, there are tens of thousands of “Beliebers” willing to defend their mop-haired puppy – armed with their Bieber screen tees and matching duvet covers.

Consider all the factors when deciding how many people to go with to Coachella

So you’ve found warm shelter for your three-day trip to Coachella. What’s next? Now you must consider who is included in your band for traveling and camping. You may have already thought about this when you were picking where to stay, but a few more people may want to tag along.

It is important to consider the number of people going with you because of gas, food, the amount of space in your car and whether or not you can survive a long car ride with them.

One pro of having more than two people in your group is that you can split expenses like food and gas. On the other hand, you may not all want to see the same performers, so you might end up alone at times.

If you’re worried about making space in your camping spot, you’ll need to factor in the number of people, tents that will fit everyone and the size of your car. All of these items must fit within the designated 10-by-30 feet.
