Concert review: The Naked and Famous, Unknown Mortal Orchestra perform disjointed sets at Echoplex
The Naked and Famous with Unknown Mortal Orchestra
The Echoplex
Friday and Saturday, April 8-9
After busing it the length of Sunset Boulevard through Silver Lake and finally to Echo Park for an hour and a half through traffic, I was ready to dance.
However, even after arriving on time to an already on-the-late-side 8:30 p.m. show at the Echoplex, bouncers informed our shivering alley crowd that alas, the opener ““ Unknown Mortal Orchestra ““ had just arrived. Unrehearsed.
Now, I wouldn’t mind waiting an additional half hour for fashionable lateness if Unknown Mortal Orchestra was, well, a little more than unknown.

UCLA will host Middle Tennessee State in a “Maui-on-Mainland” game at the Los Angeles Sports Arena before heading to the tournament. The field includes Duke, Georgetown, Kansas, Memphis, Michigan, Tennessee and host Chaminade.

Fourteen UCLA home games will be played at the Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena with four home games to be played at the Honda Center in Anaheim. The Bruins’ lone exhibition game will be played at Citizens Business Bank Arena in Ontario.
L.A. Comedy Shorts Film Festival puts humorous theater in the spotlight at Downtown Independent
If there was a short comedy film made about a film festival, one of the panels at said festival would probably sound something like “Famous People Talking About S&*%.”
It’s only fitting that this panel is actually on the slate for the 2011 L.A. Comedy Shorts Film Festival, opening Thursday at the Downtown Independent theater.
Scott Duncan to leave UCLA basketball to return to Wyoming
After serving as an assistant coach on Ben Howland’s staff for the past four seasons, Scott Duncan has left UCLA to become the associate head coach at Wyoming.
Duncan returns to Wyoming and rejoins an old coaching mate, Larry Shyatt, who was named Wyoming’s head coach on March 31. Shyatt and Duncan coached together at Wyoming and Clemson in the late 1990s. This marks Shyatt and Duncan’s second stints with the Cowboys.
