Concert review: Peter Bjorn and John put on a high-energy show at the El Rey Theatre

Pop-rockers Peter Bjorn and John may be most well-known for the whistled hook of their 2006 hit “Young Folks,” but at a sold out show at the El Rey Theater on Saturday night, the Swedish trio showed that it knew how to do much more than make a catchy single; it also knows how to put on a terrific live show.

Theater review: "Four Clowns"

“Four Clowns,” a performance piece conceived and directed by Jeremy Aluma, perfectly understands this basic characteristic of the clown. During the roughly 90-minute production, staged at the Sacred Fools Theater in Los Angeles, the audience follows four archetypal clowns representing anger, anxiety, sadness and mischief on their journey from childhood to death.

An unlikely combo: jazz, bluegrass bands to showcase joint album 'American Legacies'

Two years ago, Ben Jaffe, a member of the Preservation Hall Jazz Band, said he did not think that jazz and traditional bluegrass music would make for a great musical hybrid. However, on Thursday his band will perform with the traditional bluegrass band Del McCoury at Royce Hall to showcase their joint album “American Legacies.”

UCLA students will continue to occupy sideline seats in Pauley Pavilion

Five weeks after announcing a change in student seating at the renovated Pauley Pavilion, UCLA Athletic Director Dan Guerrero did an about-face.

In a letter e-mailed to The Den on Tuesday, Guerrero announced that students will continue to occupy a sideline section when Pauley reopens in 2012. The reversion to the plan for student seating announced in the summer of 2009 comes five days after an advisory vote on the undergraduate student government election ballot showed overwhelming opposition to the change.
