Study shows the UC is a major contributor to California's economy

The University of California generates $46.3 billion in annual economic activity for the state, according to a report released Wednesday by Economic & Planning Systems Inc.

The study, the first UC economic impact report since 2003, also concluded the UC contributes $32.8 billion toward California’s gross state product.

This shows that California and the UC are “inextricably intertwined,” according to a release from the UC Board of Regents committee on finance.

VIDEO: First video blog with Daily News beat writer Jon Gold

Sam Strong, one of the Daily Bruin’s UCLA football beat writers, and Jon Gold of the LA Daily News have started a series of video blogs that will recap the prior week’s game and preview the upcoming week.

This week, the guys talk about an underwhelming 27-17 win over San Jose State and preview the team’s upcoming matchup with Texas at the Rose Bowl.

UCLA will be looking for its second win against Texas in as many years as they were able to dispose of the Longhorns last year in Austin, 34-12.

Neuheisel maintains that both Kevin Prince and Richard Brehaut will be “ready” but doesn’t want to say too much and doesn’t feel the need to name a starter before the game.
