Oct. 24, 2011 “”mdash; Inspired by the late political activist Professor Victor Wolfenstein, political science Professor Michael Chwe pitched a tent at the Occupy L.A. Chwe discusses honoring Wolfenstein’s memory at this movement.

Then program manager Melanie Gideon shares the mission of Operation Mend, a joint effort between the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center, the Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas, and the Veterans Association Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System. The project provides care for soldiers who were severely wounded or disfigured in Iraq and Afghanistan, such as retired Army Sergeant First Class Michael Schlitz.

Finally, self-proclaimed “black journalista” and recent author of “Black Talk, Blue Thoughts, and Walking the Color Line: Dispatches from a Black Journalista,” Erin Aubry Kaplan calls in. The UCLA alumna discusses her title and her journey as an author and a potent voice of the black community.

Different hospitals have joined forces to create Operation Mend, provide health care to veterans

Oct. 24, 2011 – Operation Mend reaches out to soldiers who were severely wounded or disfigured during service in Iraq and Afghanistan. Program manager Melanie Gideon describes how the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center, Brooke Army Medical Center and the Veterans Association Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System join forces in providing reconstructive surgeries and other health services to veterans such as retired Army Sergeant First Class Michael Schlitz.
