BERKELEY — For the second straight game the UCLA men’s basketball trailed by just one point at halftime, but on Saturday the Bruins couldn’t stay competitive after the break.
California blew UCLA out of the gates to open the second half and cruised to a 85-69 win at Haas Pavilion.

Though they couldn’t pull out a win last night, the Bruins hung tough with a Stanford team that looks like it’s one of the best in the conference in the early stages.
STANFORD “”mdash; Senior guard Lazeric Jones, singlehandedly accounting for almost half of the UCLA men’s basketball team’s point total, was unquestionably getting the ball with UCLA down a point.
STANFORD “”mdash; UCLA trails Stanford at the half here at Maples Pavilion, 24-23, but the Bruins have slowly climbed back into the game thanks to another mid-game switch to a zone defense.
UCLA coach Ben Howland switched away from man-to-man less than six minutes into the game with UCLA trailing by seven.
