San Diego State hosts UCLA women’s water polo in first conference game of the season

Even though San Diego State’s Aztec Aquaplex is known for its tendency to have rowdy crowds that frustrate visiting teams, the UCLA women’s water polo team hopes this weekend’s visit to San Diego is not its last of the season.

At the end of Friday’s practice, all that could be heard from the UCLA women’s water polo team were the whistles of coaches and the yells of players focused on calling out offensive schemes, perfecting ball movements and slamming home one-timers.

As the women’s water polo season opened up last week in Michigan it proved to be an opportunity for the inexperienced members of the team to get some playing time and step up to the challenge of the collegiate play. The inexperience of the team, though, proved not to be an issue as the No. 3 Bruins went 3-0 at the Michigan Invitational, scoring 29 goals over three games.
