UCLA men’s basketball prepares for challenge in Las Vegas

UCLA men’s basketball’s comfort zone has been clearly established. In five games over a three-week period to open the season at Pauley Pavilion, the Bruins have averaged 87.2 points per game, good for 27th best in the nation. They’ve done it, however, without playing a single opponent from a conference in the top 10 for […]

UCLA men’s basketball overpowers Chattanooga, 106-65

With just a couple minutes gone in the second half, Norman Powell dribbled up the baseline full speed ahead.
By the time he realized there was a Chattanooga defender with his shoulders squared standing just outside the key, it was too late. The sophomore guard rose up and threw down a powerful right arm.
UCLA defeated Chattanooga 106-65 on Sunday night in its highest-scoring affair since December 23, 2008, and from about the sixth minute onward, it was a laugher filled with high-flying dunks from Powell and fellow height enthusiasts like freshman guard Zach LaVine.

Bruins reach milestones in 81-70 win against Eagles

On one play, two Bruins set milestones. Curling around a screen, sophomore guard Jordan Adams grabbed a pass from sophomore guard/forward Kyle Anderson, took a few steps to the rim and laid the ball in off the glass. The bucket gave Adams his 28th point of the night – a new career high – and gave Anderson his 10th assist of the game, giving him his first career triple double.

UCLA will welcome back Travis Wear against Morehead State

UCLA’s layup lines before Monday night’s game against Sacramento State came with a bit of a surprise. No, it wasn’t freshman guard Zach LaVine settling for just a layup instead of a thunderous dunk. Rather, it was the attire of redshirt senior forward Travis Wear, who donned a black tracksuit instead of the Bruins’ blue […]

Five-star forward headlines UCLA basketball’s 2014 class

As the UCLA men’s basketball team awaits the re-addition of redshirt senior forward Travis Wear to the lineup on Friday, the team got some news on additions to the program’s future. Wednesday marked the end of the National Letter of Intent early signing period for NCAA recruits, and the Bruins emerged with several prospects that […]

Bruins zip past Hornets in 86-50 win

No Travis Wear, no problem. For the third straight game, the redshirt senior forward didn’t touch the court, but in an 86-50 win over the Sacramento State Hornets, the Bruins’ third straight win, his loss didn’t particularly sting. As recently as Thursday, coach Steve Alford said, “We do hope to have Trav back,” a goal that […]

UCLA heads into half with 36-23 advantage over Sacramento State

UCLA men’s basketball had some unexpected news before its game against Sacramento State tonight. Redshirt senior forward Travis Wear, who coach Steve Alford had anticipated could be ready to return by tonight, hung back from the layup line, instead standing on the sidelines in a track suit, out for the game. Things didn’t go completely […]
