Initially worn for their practical uses as military camouflage, olive green outerwear and pants are becoming mainstays in student wardrobes.

When she was 17 years old, second-year art student Hannah Kim started hand-making and selling chicken-print shirts as a part of her brand CHINGOOZ. Since then, she has sold more than 500 chicken shirts.

Maybe Justin Timberlake’s and Britney Spears’ red carpet style wasn’t so off. This week, UCLA students took to the perennial trend of denim, wearing everything from embroidered jackets to acid-washed overalls.

The high summer temperatures have led students to seek breezier alternatives to encasing their legs in tight denim. Studentsseek comfort in culottes, palazzo pants and other wide-legged bottoms made of lighter fabrics, such as linen and silk, which allow for air circulation and ease of movement during long weekday schedules.

Criss-cross lace patterns are no longer reserved for dingy pairs of gym sneakers. Laces have zigzagged their way into the necklines of tops, dresses and bodysuits, quickly growing to become a popular trend of the past year. UCLA students teamed up to plan and host the Watermelone Music Festival in Shanghai featuring multiple local bands such as “Schrödinger’s Fish” and “Lush!”.

The Portland-based rock band, Portugal The Man, came to the Hollywood Palladium on Saturday and Sunday fresh off of their newest album, “Woodstock”.
