The new school year is a time of transition for UCLA.

Come June 12, thousands of UCLA students will officially graduate and enter the much-feared “real world.” Thousands more will begin their summer recess, starting a 100-day break from the apparently sheltered life in Westwood.

By the end of the week, a meal swipe from the Hill will be worth $2.45 at any Associated Students UCLA eatery or $2.15 at any on-campus franchise restaurant.

The Undergraduate Council of the Academic Senate met on Tuesday to consider the elimination of just one of the four required science courses in the undergraduate General Education requirement.

In order to help the state cope with its ongoing budgetary problems, the governor and, subsequently, the UC Board of Regents have proposed that management of the state’s prison health-care system be overseen by University of California medical staff.

With fewer than three weeks of formal instruction remaining, some graduating students are greedily counting down the days to commencement.
