Yamato Restaurant in Westwood is temporarily closed, after Los Angeles County Department of Public Health officials said they found a “heavy cockroach infestation” during a health inspection on Thursday.

Following the inspection, the health department ordered Yamato, located at 1099 Westwood Blvd, to close for 48 hours and address the problem, said LeTaun Cotton, an environmental health service manager for the health department.

A follow-up inspection of Yamato is scheduled for Saturday, and a health inspector must confirm the facility is safe, Cotton said. Before it can reopen, the restaurant must eliminate all signs of cockroaches ““ including fecal remnants ““ in any cracks or crevices where the bugs might be living, Cotton said.

The manager at Yamato declined to comment on the closure.

Clarification: Yamato has been closed; it is not facing closure.
