"We the Folk" plays holiday tunes, discusses musical goals

“We the Folk” is a folk band comprised of members David Villafana, second-year music composition student Gabe Wheaton, and fourth-year American literature and culture student Melinda West. On Long Story Short this week, they discuss their fusion of cultural flares with creative impulses and play renditions of “The Hanukkah Song” and “Christmas Time is Here”.

As National Novel Month comes to a close, the hosts of Long Story Short join another write-in at UCLA to see whether or not the student participants reached their 50,000 word goal. English professor Colleen Jaurretche dramatically reads a passage from the Charles Dickens classic “A Christmas Carol.” Also, the student band “We the Folk” plays their renditions of holiday folk tunes including “Christmas Time is Here” and “The Hanukkah Song.”

"Urinetown" cast members discuss meaning behind the musical

This weekend, the Hooligan Theater Company will host their production of “Urinetown”, a musical about a society that has undergone a twenty year drought and where a corporation called “Urine Good Company” regulates taxes for people who use bathroom facilities and fine those who urinate on the streets. To talk more about the meaning behind the musical, Long Story Short talked to fourth year geography major Mack Kary, first year math major Aaron Fish, first year undeclared student Landen Baldwin, and fourth year history major Bridgett Leahy about the meaning behind the musical.
