Some volleyball fans may have noticed that the UCLA women’s volleyball team has a different look this season: The Bruins are playing without Jordan Smith, the team leader in digs for the past two seasons.

While UCLA students gear up for their first days of class this week, the women’s volleyball team will be leaving Westwood and flying to the Bay Area.

The Pac-10 women’s volleyball title is up for grabs, and it’s anyone’s guess who will come away with the championship. With five nationally ranked teams, the Pac-10 is known in the volleyball world for tough competition week after week.

The atmosphere at any national competition is a strange mix of excitement and stress, and this week’s NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Sacramento are not expected to be any different. But no matter how overwhelming the scene may get, the discus throwers from the UCLA men’s track and field team are going into their competition with a relaxed state of mind.

The results from the UCLA men’s track and field team’s weekend at the NCAA West Region Championships had a familiar feel for senior hurdler Brandon Johnson.
Johnson and the Bruins spent the weekend in Eugene, Ore., to compete for bids to the NCAA Outdoor Championships. As a team, UCLA finished fourth with 53.50 points and automatically qualified six Bruins for nationals.

The No. 7/8 UCLA men’s track and field team is in “Track Town, USA” today and Saturday to compete in the NCAA West Region Championships.
