LIVE BLOG: The 53rd Annual Grammy Awards

Lady Gaga’s arrival to the 53rd Annual Grammy Awards in a giant plastic egg, carried by men in skin-tight gold boxers, means that the show has already begun. But the broadcast of the awards won’t begin on CBS until 8 p.m. PST. Join me here at 7:30 before the show begins to read my live blog of the award presentation and the performances throughout. Whether you think that Justin Bieber is a shoe-in for the award for best new artist or you think that result would be the end of music as we know it, there will be something for everyone.

Feel free to leave comments and questions throughout and participate in our polls about the show.

Movie Review: Seventh 'Potter' film makes magic

photo courtesy of Warner Brothers Pictures

It’s finally happened. After nine years and six movies, the penultimate Potter movie delivers a grown-up cast, a dark wizarding world and the most captivating storytelling thus far. The beginning of the end has come and “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1″ has made me believe in magic once again.

The film opens sans the customary trumpeting of the Harry Potter theme, but rather with silence and a tarnished Warner Brothers logo. Harry stands by while his aunt and uncle load everything they own and abandon their home at Number 4 Privet Drive. Hermione wipes all knowledge of her existence from her parents’ minds and her image disappears from the frames throughout her muggle, or non-magic, home. Four deaths in the first half hour, and at least one shrill scream on my part, drive home the point that Harry Potter isn’t all charms and transfiguration anymore.

While “Inception” may have been the blockbuster of the summer, Joseph Gordon-Levitt made an impression on Bruins long before that. His talk tonight at Ackerman Grand Ballroom, hosted by UCLA Campus Events Commission, has sold out nearly 1000 seats and brought out fans of “10 Things I Hate About You” and “(500) Days of Summer” alike.

The 29-year old actor comes to UCLA tonight to talk about his production company hitrecord.org which allows artists from all over to contribute and collaborate on video productions.

According to Daniel Soto, CEC speakers director and a third-year geography and environmental studies student, tickets for the event sold out two hours after the Central Ticket Office (CTO) opened on Wednesday, Nov. 3. The 100 tickets released the following morning were gone in 15 minutes.
