Ben Howland meets the media after his Bruins narrowly escaped Pauley Pavilion with an 86-84 victory after blowing a 14-point lead.

Reeves Nelson saved the day for UCLA as he came streaking in from above the three-point line to tip in a Tyler Honeycutt missed jumper in the waning seconds of the game.

Freshman center Joshua Smith suffered a mild concussion in the first half and was held out of the rest of the game for precautionary reasons. He is listed as a game time decision for UCLA’s game against Stanford tomorrow

*UPDATED:* Bruins lead Golden Bears 41-35 at halftime

UCLA is leading 41-35 at halftime of the battle for the UC basketball crown here at Pauley Pavilion.

The Bruins used their newly-acquired transition offense to garner the first-half advantage.

Sophomore Reeves Nelson led the way for the Bruins with 12 points and five rebounds while sophomore Tyler Honeycutt pitched in four rebounds of his own to go along with eight points. Junior Jerime Anderson, who received much praise from Ben Howland this week, was scoreless in the first half but managed to dish out a game-high four assists.

Seating donation requirement reduced for the new Pauley Pavilion

UCLA fans, rejoice.

The UCLA athletic department announced today that there will be a reduction of the required donation to the Wooden Athletic Fund in order to receive priority seating in the renovated Pauley Pavilion.

“We are happy to announce that due to the enormous generosity of hundreds of donors during our Campaign of Champions, all per seat Wooden Athletic Fund donation requirements throughout renovated Pauley Pavilion will be reduced by 20 percent from the previously-announced levels,” UCLA athletic director Dan Guerrero said in a news release.
