Updated: Three UCLA students arrested at UC Board of Regents meeting

SAN FRANCISCO – Three UCLA students were arrested for holding an unlawful assembly and failing to disperse from the UC Board of Regents’ bimonthly meeting at UC San Francisco’s Mission Bay campus as protesters were leaving the building.

Mathew Sandoval, a graduate student in world arts and cultures, Cheryl Deutsch, president of graduate student union UAW 2865 at UCLA, and Andrew Newton, a fourth-year international development studies student, were forced to the floor and handcuffed by several police officers outside the auditorium where the regents meet.

UCLA places sixth on Princeton Review's 'Dream College' list

UCLA placed sixth on the “Dream College” list released Tuesday by the Princeton Review, marking an improvement from seventh place last year.

The publication’s 2012 College Hopes and Worries Survey, which takes place annually, asked college applicants and their parents ““ about 11, 000 total respondents ““ to report on their expectations and experiences surrounding the college application process, according to the survey report.

The report has separate rankings for students’ and parents’ dream schools.

Regents express doubt over funding model for UCLA conference center, hotel

SAN FRANCISCO “”mdash; A UC Board of Regents committee withheld approval of the budget for UCLA’s planned $152 million conference center and hotel at its bimonthly meeting today, expressing skepticism about the financial model.

The regents indicated the full board would vote Thursday on granting UCLA only a small fraction of the budget ““ a few million dollars or less, to allow the campus to move forward with design plans.

UCLA and UC leadership will now need to regroup to address questions raised by the board.

UC Regents discuss Gov. Brown's tax initiative, campus police protocol

SAN FRANCISCO ““ University of California President Mark Yudof voiced support for Gov. Jerry Brown’s tax initiative and said he will encourage the UC Board of Regents to do the same at a future meeting.

Brown’s measure, which would boost funding for public education and other services, proposes to increase the sales tax by a quarter-cent for four years and hike income taxes for seven years for those making more than $250,000.
