Protesters interrupt UC Board of Regents meeting

Protesters holding signs and dressed in orange jumpsuits briefly interrupted the UC Board of Regents meeting in Sacramento Wednesday morning.

About 20 UC students, employees, teaching assistants and tutors broke into a chant and circled the audience, forcing the regents to take a recess and enter closed session.

Among them were several UCLA students, including Alex Yu a fifth-year history student and world arts and culture graduate student Matt Sandoval.

Students chanted, “That’s the sound of the students-working on the chain gang” and held up signs with messages such as “Long live the Guillotine.”

The regents had been discussing the draft of the Robinson-Edley report on UC protest policies before the chanting broke out.

The Undergraduate Students Association Council is the official student government of UCLA’s undergraduate students. Council meetings are Tuesdays at 7 p.m. in Kerckhoff 417 and are open to all students.

On May 7, the Daily Bruin published an advertisement titled “The Two-State Illusion,” which argues that the Palestinians’ quest for statehood is actually a guise for their ulterior motive “to wipe Israel off the map and push the Jews into the sea.”

Letter to the editor: Muslim Bruins should be treated with respect

This past Tuesday a photograph was posted on Facebook showing two signboards ““ the Muslim Student Association’s endorsement of Lana Habib El-Farra and Taylor Mason next to the Young Americans for Freedom at UCLA’s endorsement of Bruins United. Beneath the picture was a hurtful, bigoted caption.

Two robberies in North Village could be connected to other recent crimes in the area

There were two robberies and one attempted robbery on North Village streets this weekend, which police say could be part of a pattern of robberies in the area.

Since early April, the West Los Angeles Police Department and UCPD has recorded a total of seven robberies and attempted robberies, many of which were of UCLA students.
