At the Associated Students UCLA board of directors meeting on Friday, students from Conciencia Libre, a worker’s advocacy group at UCLA, came to protest Russell Athletic’s labor practices.

The preliminary plans for the development of the South Campus Student Center, which will replace the current Bombshelter, have been completed, and construction will begin December 2009.

Kirk Stark, a professor at the UCLA School of Law, is known by his students and his colleagues to turn mundane subjects into an interactive learning experience.

This Saturday, faculty and staff from the School of Public Health will unveil a partnership with an international aid organization with the goal to expand basic necessities to developing nations and incorporate service-learning into the academic curriculum.

Several national universities have cut their business ties with Russell Athletic, a major producer of collegiate apparel, due to the company’s alleged unfair labor practices.

The downturn in the national economy was a prominent topic of discussion at the Associated Students UCLA Board of Directors meeting on Friday, but despite the decreased funds, the association continued to allocate funds for construction projects and student programming.

STA Travel’s UCLA office was closed this summer after spending several years in Ackerman Union, and will be replaced by the UCLA Blood and Platelet Center in March.
