Thirty minutes before the 2009 NCAA Tournament bracket was announced on Sunday afternoon, UCLA men’s basketball coach Ben Howland knew the Bruins’ fate.

Two weeks ago, prior to the UCLA men’s basketball team’s last home game of the season against Oregon, senior forward Josh Shipp stood on the Pauley Pavilion court for the final time in a UCLA jersey.

A missed opportunity.
That’s how UCLA men’s basketball coach Ben Howland described the No. 2 Bruins’ 65-55 loss to No. 6 USC on Friday night in the semifinals of the Pacific Life Pac-10 Men’s Basketball Tournament at Staples Center. The Trojans move on to the tournament finals to face No. 3 Arizona State today at 3 p.m.
