Crimewatch
Computers and electronic equipment were on the menu for thieves
this week. Two laptops were reported stolen from Hilgard, a $1000
Laptop computer went missing between Feb. 5 and Feb. 12, and
another laptop with an estimated value of $2000 disappeared from
the computer room between Feb. 4 and Feb. 11.
Thieves with possible culinary aspirations were on the prowl at
the Center for Health Sciences, where a $200 microwave was taken on
Wednesday.
And a $200 cellular phone was taken from Ackerman Plaza game
room on Thursday.
Two wallets were reported taken this week, one from the
MacDonald Medical Research Lab and the other from level one of
Ackerman Union, a total loss of $101.
Backpacks were another favored item; one backpack was removed
from Hedrick Hall at a loss of $225 and another went missing from
Covel Commons on Monday, the victim losing approximately $40.
A blue 18-speed bicycle worth $200 was taken from Schoenberg’s
west side bike rack between 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. Feb. 10.
Parking-permit theft continues to be an impulse for motor
vehicle burglary; one was taken from lot 8 on Monday, and another
was removed from a vehicle in Structure 9 on Thursday. A license
plate was also taken on Thursday from the Center for Health
Sciences level A4.
Unknown suspects broke into a vehicle at lot 11 between Tuesday
and Wednesday and removed a stereo worth $150.
In addition, various items were removed from a vehicle parked In
Midvale Avenue parking garage, an estimated loss of $2225.
An unknown suspect passed two bad checks at the Medical Plaza,
leading to a total loss of $1035.
Police are currently investigating this crime.
Four to five juveniles set fire to an umbrella in an alley by
Keystone Menton Apartments on Wednesday. The fire was already
extinguished by the time police arrived.
