Tyler Ebell has made his first public comments since being
granted his release to transfer from UCLA Friday. For nearly two
months Ebell has refrained from making public comments, and has
declined interview requests from all media, until Monday. “I
didn’t know what (the coaches) were thinking,” Ebell
told the Ventura County Star. “I would be the starter, but
then I would be out by the second quarter.” Possible
destinations for Ebell include San Diego State, University of
Nevada – Las Vegas and Texas Christian University, his father,
Dennis, told the North County Times. After a breakout redshirt
freshman campaign, Ebell saw his playing time dramatically reduced,
with the coaching staff preferring true freshman Maurice Drew.
“It was a very disappointing and frustrating year, both
personally and for us as a team,” Ebell said. “There
were a lot of expectations for me and for the team. Not maybe from
the outside, but as a team we felt we had a lot of talent. We just
didn’t pull it together. “Personally, I was very
frustrated. Whenever I got my shot, I felt I made something happen.
That is a positive. But it’s also a negative because I
wasn’t able to help our team win because I wasn’t in
there too much.”
