The UCLA football team heads into halftime with a 17-0 lead over Houston.
The Bruins got off to a quick start with the defense as a Houston receiver dropped the football on a backward pass, which was ruled a fumble, which redshirt sophomore Eric Kendricks returned for a touchdown, a mere 16 seconds into the game.
UCLA’s offense had a little more trouble getting started but once again got some help from one of its defensive stalwarts.
Redshirt senior defensive end Datone Jones changed his jersey number from 56 to 97 to become an eligible receiver. Redshirt freshman Brett Hundley found him in the endzone on a 7-yard pass for the second touchdown of the night with less than five minutes to play in the first quarter.
UCLA tacked on a 35-yard field goal from freshman kicker Ka’imi Fairbairn in the second quarter.
