Dr. Jody Heymann, a pediatrician and researcher on health and social policy, was named the new dean of the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health on Wednesday, according to a university statement.
Heymann will take over for Dr. Linda Rosenstock, who after nearly 12 years in the role decided to step down on July 1.
The incoming dean has served as a professor of epidemiology and political science at McGill University in Montreal, and is a founding director of the Institute for Health and Social Policy at McGill. She is also a founding director of the World Legal Rights Data Centre, an international database that compares health and social policies across countries in the United Nations.
“I couldn’t be more thrilled to join the faculty, students and staff at the Fielding School of Public Health as we work together with others at UCLA and across the local and global community to tackle crucial issues at home and abroad,” Heymann said in the statement.
Her appointment takes effect Jan. 1, 2013.
