Correction: Chick-fil-A has recently become a topic of debate, after the company’s president reportedly made comments against same-sex marriage.
Popular fast food chain Chick-fil-A, which is currently at the center of a controversy concerning same-sex marriage, may soon open its doors in Westwood Village ““ in a building UCLA recently purchased.
Chick-fil-A signed a lease several months ago to move into the space on the corner of Westwood Boulevard and Le Conte Avenue, where Burger King is currently located, said Steve Ritea, a UCLA spokesman.Â
The deal was made under the building’s previous ownership. UCLA purchased the building after the deal was made and inherited the lease with Chick-fil-A, Ritea said.
Chick-fil-A has recently become a topic of debate, after the company’s president reportedly made comments against same-sex marriage.
The university has no control over the space because the lease, which was signed before Chick-fil-A became a subject of controversy, is a binding contract and cannot be withdrawn, Ritea said.
Burger King is currently still in operation and it is unclear when Chick-fil-A plans to move into the building. Representatives from either franchise could not be reached for comment.
