Correction: Upon its completion, the iPic theater will be the fourth commercial movie theater in Westwood and the only theater with multiple screens, said Steve Sann, chair of the Westwood Community Council.
A new 480-seat movie theater is set to open in the space that once housed the AMC Avco Theater by early 2013.
Florida-based company iPic Entertainment announced their expansion into the site of the former AMC Theater in the Avco Center at 10840 Wilshire Blvd. in a statement released Tuesday. The Avco AMC closed in December 2011 after AMC and the landlord could not reach agreeable lease renewal terms.
The new theater is described in the statement as an “affordable luxury experience” that houses six theaters, each with 40 to 80 seats. The theater will also include reclining chairs, pillows and blankets, and a full restaurant and bar, according to the statement.
Upon its completion, the iPic theater will be the fourth commercial movie theater in Westwood and the only theater with multiple screens, said Steve Sann, chair of the Westwood Community Council.
“Having more movie theaters is a very positive development (for Westwood),” Sann said. “There are a lot of serious movie goers on the Westside who want a more upscale option.”
IPic has not yet released pricing information for the Westwood theater, but tickets at other locations range from $10 to $29, with discounts offered for non-reclining chairs or to those who sign up for a free membership.
