Cinthia Flores, UCLA alumna and second-year law student at UC Irvine, was formally appointed as the 2013-2014 student regent today at the bimonthly UC Board of Regents meeting.
Beginning with today’s meeting, Flores immediately assumes the position of student regent-designate, a non-voting seat on the board, and will become the student regent the following year.
The student regent sits in on all board meetings and speaks on behalf of UC students. There are two students who sit on the board.
Flores, who was the first Latina Undergraduate Students Association Council president at UCLA, was appointed over about 50 other students who applied for the position. She was nominated for the position by former Student Regent Alfredo Mireles in May, and the entire board approved her appointment by vote.
Jonathan Stein, a graduate student of law and public policy at UC Berkeley, replaced former Student Regent Alfredo Mireles as the student regent. Stein’s term will end at the end of the 2012-2013 year.
