A UCLA student was robbed outside the Sigma Chi fraternity house on Tuesday evening, according to university police.
At about 7:35 p.m., the student was walking north in front of the fraternity house at 459 Gayley Avenue, according to a police statement released Tuesday. A man walking in the opposite direction grabbed the student’s arm, forcibly took his cell phone, and then fled on foot down Gayley Avenue toward Strathmore Drive.
The student received a cut on his knee, according to the police statement.
The man was described in the statement as black, 17-24 years old, about 170-190 pounds and from 5 feet 10 inches to 6 feet. He has short, brown, curly hair and a mustache and was wearing a white T-shirt with khaki pants at the time.
Police recommend students be aware of their surroundings and not open doors for strangers. UCPD also suggests students should comply with a robber when confronted and gather a detailed description.
The robbery is currently under investigation. Anyone with information about the incident should call UCPD at 310-825-1491.
