UCLA softball was eliminated from the NCAA Tournament in excruciating fashion Saturday.
The hosts of the Los Angeles Regional lost 2-1 in their elimination game with Florida State.
Down to their final out in the top of the seventh with nobody on base, UCLA sophomore second baseman Talee Snow singled to right field. Redshirt senior center fielder Katie Schroeder followed with a single to put runners on the corners. Freshman infielder Stephany LaRosa hit a groundball to the shortstop which was initially bobbled before making the throw to first, just ahead of LaRosa, to end the game.
Coupled with a 7-2 loss to Hofstra on Friday night, No. 12-seeded UCLA’s loss Saturday sealed the team’s fate in the double-elimination tournament. The Bruins finish the year 36-20 overall.
