“The Avengers” is the absolute pinnacle of superhero movies. Marvel’s previous films, featuring beloved heroes such as the Incredible Hulk, Captain America, Thor and Iron Man all converge in this action-packed movie.

Starring big-name actors such as Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Chris Evans and quite a few more, the talent is nearly overwhelming. Though some movies with all-star casts, such as “Valentine’s Day,” seem to fall flat in comparison to the hype the stars bring, “The Avengers” does not disappoint.

Viewers, however, should not expect a particularly original plot. In fact, the story could have been directly taken from “Transformers: Dark of the Moon.” In light of an approaching alien-takeover involving an unlimited energy source, the superheroes must unite to save the world.

Although, “The Avengers” executes this formulaic plot far better than “Transformers.” The film is not convoluted with an out-of-place love story, instead choosing to deal with a struggle for a balance of power among the super-charged.

Despite the typical storyline, “The Avengers” easily surpasses all other superhero movies, never once coming across as too-cliche or cheesy. In addition, the visual effects are flawless.

Fight sequences, though seemingly long, keep the viewer interested and engaged throughout the film. The use of clear camera angles, ingenious choreography and well-timed humor throughout the scenes set them apart from those in other movies such as the “Transformers” or “Pirates of the Caribbean” series.

Seeing this movie in RealD 3D is also highly recommended. The 3D effects are tasteful and don’t induce irritating nausea or headaches. Plus, the 3D adds extra depth to the large-scale action scenes.

In this movie, timing is key. Witty banter among characters would have seemed forced if not for theA skillful deliveries. Likewise, the suspense-filled attacks, followed by nick-of-time rescues keep audience members on the edges of their seats.

The true charm of the film is a product of the characters. Because of the prior Marvel films, the audience goes in with these well-known superheroes already nestled in their hearts. In this way, “The Avengers” does an excellent job of bringing viewers back to their comic book-filled childhoods.

As a film for everyone, whether they Are devout Marvel fans or people who are just looking for a thrill at the box office, “The Avengers” is a must-see.
