The men’s tennis team tinkered with their lineup for their match against Hawaii and the changes paid off as it led to a victory.
The No. 4 Bruins swept the Warriors in a 7-0 victory, which improved their season record to 12-2 and dropped Hawaii to 1-6.
This was a good bounce back win for the Bruins, who were thrashed by the No. 1 USC Trojans last time they took the court.
Sophomore Clay Thompson made his singles position debut at the number one spot, while redshirt senior Nick Meister dropped down to the second spot.
In addition, redshirt junior Alex Brigham and junior Warren Hardie took the singles positions of freshmen Marcos Giron and Dennis Mkrtchian.
The Bruins did not drop a match against the Warriors as each player had straight-set wins.
The lineup changes continued in doubles with junior Maxime Tabatruong taking the spot of Thompson as he paired up with Hardie.
This helped UCLA sweep the doubles point, which they did for the third time in 14 matches this year.
It is unclear whether these changes to the lineup will stick, but coach Billy Martin has not been shy about adjusting the matchups as he tries to find the perfect fit for his team.
The Bruins will take on Baylor on Wednesday at the Los Angeles Tennis Center, which Martin says will be “a very tough match.”
