It’s not everyday that an actress hears she was killed. For actress and UCLA student Sno E. Blac, this is a reality. Serving as the likeness for the video game character Satele Shan in the MMORPG, or Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game, “Star Wars: The Old Republic,” Blac’s physical and interactive self can even be slain in the recently released game.
Blac is a fourth-year women’s studies student who intends to make a name for herself in the entertainment industry while earning her education. She started her acting career in her early teens, when she competed in and won the Miss Georgia Teen beauty pageant.
Blac said that this early success prompted her to hire an acting agent in Atlanta and eventually inspired her to move to Los Angeles in order expand her career.
Since then, Blac has appeared in multiple films such as “Alondra Smiles” and will appear in the upcoming movies, “The Girl from the Naked Eye” and “Garbage,” a film featuring actors such as Michael Madsen and Daryl Hannah. Recently, Blac lent her physical likeness to “Star Wars: The Old Republic.”
She said she remembers entering Blur Studio, a sub-contracted visual effects company working with the game developer BioWare, and not knowing what to expect. Having only been told that her appearance was being captured in a 3D head scanner for a video game, Blac said she was unaware of the fact that the game involved Star Wars.
After her involvement in the project over a year ago, Blac has slowly realized the true extent of her fandom, citing the billboards and commercials capturing her likeness.
Humble but confident, Blac said she still hasn’t adjusted to the amount of publicity she receives for some of her roles. However, she takes the appraisal in good fun, relating an instance where she attended the midnight release of “Star Wars: The Old Republic” and was pleased to autograph the game for a three-year old fan.
Blac said that she would be willing to participate in similar projects in the future. “If it were up to me, yes. I would love to because it was a lot of fun, and it was a great experience. Every single person that I got to encounter and work with, from the fans to the people that worked on the game, have been so welcoming and gracious. It really is like a community.”
While it may be true that no one knows what the future holds for Blac, one thing seems certain; the force is definitely with her.
