UCLA football coach Jim Mora’s staff is nearly complete after the university announced the hiring of two more coaches Friday. Noel Mazzone will be the Bruins’ offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach while Jeff Ulbrich will serve as the team’s special teams coordinator and linebackers coach.
Mazzone’s hiring was finally made official after having been rumored since Mora was hired. He comes to UCLA from Arizona State where he served as the Sun Devils’ offensive coordinator for the past two seasons.
“Noel is an astute offensive strategist who has run numerous offenses in his 30-plus years in football,” Mora said in a statement. “We look forward to giving him the opportunity to tutor our student-athletes day in and day-out, especially at the quarterback position.”
This is Ulbrich’s first college coaching job. He spent the last two seasons as an assistant coach with the NFL’s Seattle Seahawks. Ulbrich played in the NFL as a linebacker for the San Francisco 49ers for 10 years where Mora coached him.
“He was always one of the most dedicated and hard-nosed players on the field,” Mora said. “On the day I met him, he told me he wanted to be a coach, and I am proud to help him accomplish that dream.”
Two more coaches are expected to be hired, most notably the defensive coordinator.
