This season's upcoming video game releases

This fall has already seen blockbuster title after blockbuster title worthy of being called Game of the Year. Yet, some of the best games are still to come, all of them sequels in an established
series. Here are the titles to look out for this holiday season.

*Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3
XBox 360, PS3, PC, Wii ““ Nov. 8
Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer Games*
The best-selling game in history belongs to the “Call of Duty” series, with each successive game outdoing the previous one. Picking up where the second game left off, players must once again defend against a Russian invasion threatening to overshadow American independence. Improving on the game’s renowned multiplayer and adding a new social aspect in the form of Elite, it doesn’t look like Infinity Ward is ready to give up its series’ hard won reputation.

*The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
XBox 360, PS3, PC ““ Nov. 11
Bethesda Game Studios*
As one of the leading franchises for Western RPGs, Elder Scrolls is expected to do well. This fifth installment allows fans to play as a dragon-born warrior who is destined to decide the fate of Skyrim. Full-on dragon fights, a reworked magic system, and better facial customization features are included. With each new scrap of information, “Skyrim” looks to be soaring above its competition.

*Super Mario 3D Land
3DS ““ Nov. 13
Nintendo*
Mario’s newest platforming misadventure takes him into a 3D space for the first time on a handheld. Although the reception for 3D games and the 3DS may be somewhat less than expected, this doesn’t mean Mario will suffer. As one of the first “system sellers” for Nintendo’s newest hardware, “Super Mario 3D Land” seems to be as polished as any of the other titles in the franchise.

*Saints Row: The Third
XBox 360, PS3, PC ““ Nov. 15
Volition, Inc.*
Much like “GTA,” “Saints Row” is an open world, blow up everything, and cause mayhem type of game. There’s one difference: Saints Row doesn’t take itself seriously. This installment features gangs dressed as Furries, the appearance of hover bikes, and an all out feeling of confusion. If you want to release some frustration without those pesky consequences, then this is the game for you.

*Halo Combat Evolved Anniversary
XBox 360 ““ Nov. 15
343 Industries, Saber Interactive, and Certain Affinity*
Before 343 Industries releases “Halo 4″ at the end of next year, the game that cemented the legend of Master Chief is being given the remake treatment. With updated graphics, achievements, and the return of classic multiplayer maps, fans can experience the inspiration for modern shooters in all its glory. But if the enhanced graphics don’t satisfy you, then play the game as it originally appeared 10 years ago with the click of a button, demonstrating the care 343 Industries is ready to dedicate to the restoration of the game.

*Assassin’s Creed: Revelations
XBox 360, PS3 ““ Nov. 15
Ubisoft Montreal*
As this gaming generation’s connection to past civilizations, “Assassin’s Creed” continues to impress with its accurate recreations of Renaissance cities such as Venice and Rome. This installment is set in mid-16th century Istanbul, and is Ezio and Altair’s last appearance in the series. The singular multiplayer is back and new features like bombs and a hook blade are included. If you’ve been confused by the story so far, this installment will supposedly answer your questions, hopefully without leaving too many more.

*The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword
Wii ““ November 20th
Nintendo*
Zelda games have been a staple in gaming since their first appearance 25 years ago. As a celebration of this accomplishment and as a farewell to the Wii, Nintendo is releasing the first console Zelda game since “Twilight Princess.” Using Wii Motion Plus, “Skyward Sword” will be more intuitive than past Wii games, utilizing this greater accuracy in both combat and exploration.

*Star Wars: The Old Republic
PC ““ December 20th
Bioware*
After five years of development, Star Wars and massively multiplayer online fans alike will finally be able to get their hands on this highly anticipated title. Set a few thousand years before the events in the movie saga, Jedi and Sith are still at war with each other. Players can choose between multiple classes such as the Trooper, Smuggler, or Bounty Hunter to settle the intergalactic conflict. However, only time will tell if this game is simply a “WOW” knockoff.
