PASADENA ““ Quarterbacks hardly resembled passers and the defenses provided just as many highlights as the offenses Saturday night at the Rose Bowl.

In the end, it was Kevin Prince and UCLA (4-4, 3-2 Pac-12) coming out on top over Pac-12 foe California (4-4, 1-4) in a 31-14 win.

It continued UCLA’s up-and-down season of a win coming after every loss.

Prince passed for 92 yards and rushed for a team-high 163 yards as he accounted for 67 percent of the Bruins’ offense.

Senior running back Derrick Coleman rushed for three touchdowns, two of which were in the fourth quarter.

It wouldn’t have been possible without the defensive efforts of Tevin McDonald. The redshirt freshman safety, starting in his fourth game, picked off three Zach Maynard passes and evoked images of former Bruin safety Rahim Moore.

UCLA forced five Cal turnovers including four interceptions, three times giving the offense the ball in the redzone. The Bruins converted those turnovers into 24 points.

The Bruins’ defense held Cal to 134 yards rushing and the Golden Bears were 2/12 in third down conversions.
