An apartment fire near UCLA temporarily shut down Wilshire Boulevard this morning, according to a Los Angeles Fire Department statement.
The fire at 10655 Wilshire Blvd. started around 4:37 a.m. and was extinguished about an hour later. According to the statement, 115 firefighters responded to the scene.
There were no injuries reported, but a family of four was displaced from the building, said Matt Spence, a LAFD spokesman.
The cause of the fire remains under active investigation, Spence said.
With a large response to an incident like the one this morning, it is routine for LAFD to close down streets for space, Spence said. Wilshire Boulevard has since reopened.
LAFD recommends people change the batteries in their smoke alarm twice a year and check the device monthly.
Spence said each unit in the Wilshire Boulevard building had properly functioning smoke alarms, which allowed all residents to get out in a timely manner and contributed to the lack of injuries.
