UCLA updates injury-reporting process

STANFORD “”mdash; UCLA has enacted a new policy when it comes to reporting on injuries.

Rather than giving a daily update on various players, team officials will distribute injury reports twice a week, usually on Mondays and Thursdays. Coach Rick Neuheisel will only comment on injuries on the days the reports are distributed and the injured players will not be made available to the media.

“We decided to amend and formalize our injury policy to streamline the injury-reporting process,” said Nick Ammazzalorso, UCLA’s new executive director of athletic communications. “The new policy draws its principles from similar policies at FBS institutions as well as several professional sports leagues.”

Here’s an example from Saturday’s 45-19 loss to Stanford of what the new reports will look like. The report will be updated at Neuheisel’s Monday press conference.

Redshirt senior defensive tackle Justin Edison ““ head
Sophomore offensive lineman Chris Ward ““ right shoulder
Senior linebacker Sean Westgate ““ right hand

Before Saturday’s game, Neuheisel called several players (F back Anthony Barr, safety Dalton Hilliard, cornerback Sheldon Price and safety Tony Dye) “game-time decisions” but none of them played.
