As students passed through Bruin Plaza today, meandering from class to class, they were treated to the sweet rock sounds of thatwasthen.
Prior to the opening track, the band teased the small audience there to see them with rocking guitar riffs and sweet drum beats. The band continued to warm up and test the instruments for another few minutes, before opening with a straight-up rock track.
By the time the band started playing, those there to see it were already sitting and watching (including a collection of children visiting the campus). Unfortunately, the band seemed a little reserved, and most people passing by simply weren’t drawn in.
But the band rocked out with their signature sound ““ think late ’60s rock with a hint of folk, similar to early Led Zeppelin ““ and those in attendance seemed pleased. Thatwasthen mixed up the playlist with a mix of fast, harder songs with driving bass lines and straight-up drum beats with slower groovier jams.
While the drums, bass and vocals were distinct, the three guitars (two electric, one acoustic) all tended to blend into each other. Still, the band managed to rock Bruin Plaza.
