Oregon leads UCLA 38-24 at halftime of the Pac-10 quarterfinals. The Bruins shot 25% in the first half, only converting on six of their 24 shot attempts. Sophomore forward Tyler Honeycutt is the only Bruin to have made more than one shot from the field.
UCLA was unable to find any rhythm offensively in the first half, from the field and the free throw line, missing six free throws in the opening 20 minutes. The Bruins last lead was at the 12:39 mark, with the score 14-11. Since that point, the Ducks have outscored UCLA 27-10, including a buzzer-beating running three-pointer to close the half by Oregon guard Garrett Sim.
Oregon had a decent shooting half, shooting 41% from the field, but the story was the Bruins lack of consistency offensively. Oregon’s offense worked much more fluently throughout the half, as the Ducks got to the hole almost at will. The lead could potentially be larger if it were not for some missed layups by Oregon.
Honeycutt is leading UCLA with 11 points, but sophomore forward Reeves Nelson has not scored, going 0-for-3 from the field. Every time Nelson gets the ball, Oregon is immediately double-teaming and the Bruins have not been able to adjust. Junior Malcolm Lee, UCLA’s other First-Team Pac-10 member next to Honeycutt and Nelson, is 1-for-3 from the field and has three points.
