What better way to spice up an event than with an onstage marriage proposal?

UCLA alumnus Dan Colby asked fellow alumna Tina Huynh to marry him during an on stage question-and-answer session for the Pediatric Aids Coalition.

Committee members fired questions at a group of alumni who used to be involved in PAC, including the couple. Colby took the microphone and popped the question, receiving a gushing “Hell yes” as a reply.

Colby chose to surprise Huynh at Dance Marathon because the event had come to mean a lot to them as a couple, having gone through so many together.

“I feel exhilarated and relieved,” said Colby, who had been guarding his secret for months.

He said he had wanted to propose for a while, and it seemed like the perfect opportunity.

Huynh said she was “stunned.”

Huynh volunteered for PAC while Colby was a moraler for the group in his first year. Huynh ended up working for Colby’s committee and the couple started dating in April of 2005.

Both Colby and Huynh now attend UC Irvine, where Colby is a medical student and Huynh is working toward a graduate degree in teaching.

In other news, dancers, mostly female, have formed a line snaking all the way around the ballroom to have their picture taken with actor Jonathan Bennett from the film “Mean Girls.” A different kind of romance.
