Freshman Derrick Coleman has started the second half at tailback, we don’t know the severity of Kahlil Bell’s ankle injury.
Story of the game? Craft tries to scramble on third and six but is quickly pulled down. Meanwhile, Oregon quarterback Jeremiah Masoli averages eight yards per rushing attempt.
Maybe this is what the Bruins need: a 31-yard punt return by Terrene Austin and great field position at the Oregon 34-yard line.
Word in the press box is that Kahlil Bell is available to play, but it’s been all Derrick Coleman so far.
Dominique Johnson flashes his potential as a No. 1 wideout with a huge 24-yard catch to move UCLA to the Oregon three yard line.
A false start moves UCLA back five yards right after the big catch by Johnson, and then Craft burns a timeout. The Bruins are still in great position, but they’ve suddenly lost some momentum.
Craft hits Taylor Embree on a quick-out to move to the one-yard line. Craft has shown some serious arm strength on those out routes tonight.
Touchdown Derrick Coleman. First of his career. Oregon 14, UCLA 7.
UCLA tries an onside kick after the score, and recovers, but the Bruins were called for a five yard penalty and Oregon gained possession at the UCLA 37-yard line. It was a big risk for the Bruins, and it turned out to be a big swing in the Ducks favor.
All those runs from Masoli opened up a trick play opportunity and Oregon used it to gain 16 yards on a reverse.
Just four plays after that onside-kick, Oregon scores to push its lead back to 14 points.
A personal foul penalty on the kick return sets UCLA back 15 yards and you could see coach Rick Neuheisel asking "Who was it on?" on the TV-replay.
UCLA has a lot of confidence in Kevin Craft’s ability to throw sharp passes on those short routes. Craft just hit Terrence Austin on third down and one when most of the stadium had to be thinking the Bruins would run.
The type of big play the Bruins’ needed; a big pass to Terrence Austin and a personal foul penalty to add 15 more yards.
That was weird. Back-up quarterback Chris Forcier comes in for one play, hands to Kahlil Bell and then Bell pitches back to him. The trick play- which I’ve never seen before in my life- gained seven yards. Kevin Craft came right in afterwards.
A big pass to Chane Moline moves UCLA into first and goal. Moline is a very good receiving option, even at the fullback position.
Jairus Byrd intercepts Kevin Craft but the play is called back for pass interference. First and goal UCLA at the one yard line.
Touchdown Kahlil Bell, and the boos are just roaring after that pass interference call. Oregon 21, UCLA 14. We’ve got a game on our hands folks.
After a UCLA score, the rowdy fans at Autzen Stadium threw objects onto the field, prompting this announcement from the PA:
"Ok fans we don’t need things thrown on the field that can result in a penalty against the Ducks."
