It’s hard to imagine a scenario where UCLA makes this a close game, as the Bruins enter the second half down 42 points.
– Kevin Craft has been hit much more often than UCLA defenders have touched Max Hall.
– UCLA senior center Micah Reed- who may be one of the most important players on the UCLA team considering his experience and the Bruins’ weak offensive line- has gone down with an injury. It looks like his right knee. He will be replaced by Jake Dean, who has never played before.
– With the ball on the BYU 32-yard line, UCLA tried for a first down on fourth and three. Terrence Austin ran a bad route though, and Kevin Craft’s pass fell incomplete.
– Aundre Dean got the first carry of his career on third and short, but was tackled in the backfield.
– BYU starting quarterback Max Hall was replaced with 6:33 left in the quarter. Back-up Brenden Gaskins came in. Hall threw seven touchdown passes today, tying BYU’s all-time record. He also finished with 271 yards and 27 completions on 35 attempts (78%).
– Alterruan Verner missed a tackle on BYU’s Michael Reed, and Reed went on for a 36-yard gain and almost a touchdown. Verner has had a tough day.
– Everything is bouncing BYU’s way. Kevin Craft’s screen pass is tipped and intercepted by BYU’s back-up defensive end Matt Putnam. Two plays later, BYU scores its eighth touchdown of the game.
– It may not be when the final seconds tick off, because BYU is playing a lot of second string players, but right now, this feels like it has to rank somewhere near UCLA’s worst loss ever.
