The UCLA football team sprinted off the practice field Thursday evening, roaring after coach Neuheisel sent them into the locker room without the usual sprints. The team will fly to Utah tomorrow and face No. 18 BYU Saturday. Here are some more notes from practice:
– "We’ve got make sure that we are focused from now until game time… we have to match their maturity," Neuheisel said after practice.
– UCLA will bring 74 players on the road trip.
– No starter has been named at left guard. Scott Glicksberg and Darius Savage competed for the spot this week. Savage received a lot of reps with the first team.
– Khalil Bell is out but will travel with the team. Several other injured veterans will travel but not play; Logan Paulsen, Ben Olson, Patrick Cowan and Marcus Everett, "their senior leadership is vital," Neuheisel said. "And they deserve to be with their teammates."
– Neuheisel said it was important to have an extra week to prepare for BYU because the team needed to come down from an emotional high after the Tennessee win and because there was a lot the Bruins needed to fix.
– Elevation can be a factor at BYU’s stadium in Provo, but Neuheisel did not seem overly concerned with the team’s conditioning level.
– Freshmen wide receiver Nelson Rosario is injured and will not travel with the team.
– There is no set starter to replace Bell. Chane Moline and Raymond Carter will split carries.
